The Greenhouse

The Greenhouse Preschool is a small, private, in-home preschool located in the Flour Bluff area of Corpus Christi, Texas.  The preschool has one teacher and enrolls only ten children each year.   

The school year runs from August to May and follows the Flour Bluff ISD calendar.  The calendar for the upcoming school year can be found below.  This means that the preschool is closed for all school holidays.  The preschool is open to children ages 3-5.  Children must be potty-trained because of the nature of the preschool environment.  We are a very active group and spend time both inside and outside during the day.  Therefore, it is necessary for children to be able to express the need to use the restroom.

Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack are provided each day.  The hours of the preschool are 7:15 a.m.  to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Students must be enrolled full time since it is a preschool program.

At The Greenhouse Preschool we are less structured and less formal than some other preschools.  That means that, while we still have routines, we allow children more time for developmentally appropriate tasks such as developmental play.   Much of our time together is spent singing, playing, dancing, practicing practical life skills, and painting both indoors and outdoors.   The children are encouraged to experience, explore, and play.  It is through these activities that they are taught letter names and sounds, numbers, colors, shapes, vocabulary, early writing skills, and early reading skills.  The children are also taught using mini-lessons during circle time each day.  We believe that by doing this, we build a stronger social and academic foundation to help children be more successful in a formal, more structured classroom.

We are not a Waldorf or Steiner preschool, but we still believe in many of the underlying principles of those schools. The Greenhouse Preschool strives to transform education into an art that educates the whole child—the heart and the hands, as well as the head.  By doing this, we hope to create a genuine inner enthusiasm for learning.
